met up with three young friends

who are ready to race there on a

Luke Stroehlein is training with

his two best friends, Aiden and

Charlie, at the village middle

school for the Houston Livestock

Show and Rodeo Run two one. Go

there running for a meaningful

cause. The idea, originating

from the counselor at the

village school. His grandfather

died and he needed a little

support with that. So oftentimes

with kids, we try to figure out

a way to kind of keep that love

going, where to pour that love

just amazing. So his grandfather

was a runner and died from

cancer. So kind of being able to

blend the two together was just

something that really helped him

through his healing journey to

live that legacy on the,

Sheridan said. I should do

something in honor of him. So.

And he was a really big runner.

So And he also loved to do it.

So we decided to do the We are

Houston Five-k. This was the

first run in his grandfather's

honor. His granddad loved

running half marathons. Now Luke

is ready to hit the pavement

downtown Houston for the rodeo

run with his best buds. They're

on a journey to raise $5,000 for

the University of Texas MD

Anderson Cancer Center. It's

meaningful for all of them. My

great uncle, he passed away

because of cancer. I think the

main reason I got inspired was

because of Luke's grandpa. But

then my grandma also has chance

cancer, so I wanted to help him

grandma. They've been training

for months. I get up in the

morning and I like I run around

my neighborhood and then like,

we all run on Sunday at the

village track. Camaraderie helps

him set the pace for the

physical challenge of running

more than three miles. It's fun.

And also, I don't want to have

them by my side to keep like me

pushing on. Sometimes I go out

in the morning with my dad like

because every morning he goes

running. So sometimes I go with

him with my sister and other

times I just train with these

two on the track. They hope more

than fun comes out of this. As

funds to fight cancer, we need

all the help we can get on this

because, uh, with you guys

watching, we can go past our

school backing them, including

their science teacher, the

school counselor is proud of

these boys working hard while

working through emotions for a

great cause. It's just the

snapshot of two boys that were

motivated to do it and our best

buddies with him. But he does.

That's his character. He want

people want to be Luke and they

want to do what Luke's doing

because he always makes really

great choices. That'll be A5K.

The time ten K starts at 9.15,

followed by the five K at 9.35.
