Backstage welcomes Dave Morales

spoke with the producers about

keeping the franchise fresh. IAH

Okay. I can't be that scary.

We're talking Saw ten which hits

theaters this week. We're ready

to take you backstage with the

perspective, John Kramer is back

doing scary stuff. This movie

takes place after the first saw

and before saw two. Are you

ready? Can you handle it? Let's

play a game. This is saw ten.

All right. You both have been

part of this franchise for

years. We started it. When did

you know the reaction in the fan

base is so hardcore. The

characters. When did you go? I

think we have something here.

The after the first weekend, the

movie prior to the movie

opening. Not true. The UK. So

what happened is we were

supposed to come out at the end

of September this is saw one

John Feltheimer who the chairman

of and CEO of Lionsgate decided

to move it into Halloween week.

world they got to move it except

the UK couldn't move it because

they had booked the theaters and

they couldn't. They had a

commitment. So the change. So

the UK released it a month early

and we did like $12 million in

UK on $1 million movie. And UK

is not as big a territory as you

think. It's not that big. And

that gave Lionsgate the Kerr the

courage to spend the money and

release the movie theatrically

and it wasn't until the opening

weekend where we're like, Wow,

this movie actually is like, we

may actually get our money back.

This is going to work. You know,

the fan base is hardcore. Do you

read like the comments? Okay.

You do? Yeah because that's how

we learn. That's kind of we

don't test the movies. We don't.

We read a ton of Reddit. We

friends of ours that read it, we

just kind of digest it, dissect

they like, who they don't like,

what we've done wrong, what

we've done, what we've done

right, and it's kind of a

sounding board for us. We

listen, you take out the

crazies, the people that hate it

and speak bad about it, or the

people that speak just are crazy

. Fans in that middle say 80. We

listen and learn. We don't do we

don't do research screenings

because we don't want people

giving away the ending and you

can't test it. And then have 300

people on Instagram talking

about the movie. So we're kind

of go with our own gut and then

we learn and we read and we

listen and we make changes. I

mean, that's how this became a

movie between Saw one and two.

It's what the audience wanted

and what the fans wanted. We

wanted Shawnee Smith back in the

movie. They wanted Tobin not in

a flashback, but still being

we know when we got to make the

movie. Now let's come up with a

story that works for this time

period. Are there scenes that

you guys see maybe as they're

filming or in the dailies or

whatever? Do you guys go, Oh,

this is going to get them? Yeah

like, okay, we can get a big

jump here. Here's how we're

going to do it and here's what

we're going to do. And, and it

worked. It was a director, does

it? Yeah Director Does it. Does

it all. Kevin's genius. I mean,

Kevin either edited or directed

every Saul movie, so he's seen

Saul. One knows what works and

does not. That's in the movie.

But every frame of footage that

we ever shot, it. Are you scared
