biking community is mourning

tonight after the loss of a

rider investigators say forty

five year old Shane McKinney was

part of a by group when he was

hit and killed by a driver who

fled the scene they're looking

for a silver key class Mercedes

that happen in the Montrose area

McKinney was part of the pride

ride here in Houston it's the

same group we covered here on

the factor last month for their

drag queen Reid Shane McKinney

was there that day and in this

video we spoke with David Laredo

who heads the pride right here

in Houston. There was a

collision between one of our

writers and a vehicle- BL at the

front of the line we really

don't see the commotion that

occurs in the back but I was

told to pull over and that's

when we saw a car speed by being

that were on the you know a busy

street you know it like thousand

Montrose. We see cars all the

time I pay no mind to it and it

was that's when I understood the

car that sped off. Is the car

that- basically collided with a

writer- it is my understanding

contact there was the first

strike between the writer in the

vehicle. And then the second

strike was the rear tire running

the road vehicles need to slow

down everyone has a

responsibility to follow the

rules of the road and be safe

you know again as a cyclist like

David said we have a

responsibility to ride

predictably. To ride you know

correctly and everything but

also there are laws that you

know vehicles need to give a

space give us. Now don't just

give us three feet give us more

it's not a lot you don't give us

the respect and understand that

there are people who use other

forms of mobility and is

vulnerable road users.

Absolutely have every right to

share the road. Now we're also

told a second cycle is was hit

last night. In the group I

actually ride with on Tuesday

and Tuesday nights but thank god

he is okay. And here on the

factor to talk about it. You

know he came in contact with me.

I had no knowledge was behind me

like that and- you know I got

hit- you know. I'm glad I'm

alive- you know the rest of the

people that was injured that

same night. And you know

unfortunately you know they

didn't make it. I did- is this

something to do. We have to look

at. I believe you know we need

to- have a talk about it as

well- in the community by

community. And I was actually

out there last night but I

actually missed that incident
